February 5, 1976

The occasion of Moineddin’s letter on the urs [death day] of Hazrat Inayat Khan was a response to mine of February 2nd. In that one, I accepted his invitation to the Lama camp May 26thand notified him of my teaching tour from February 6 through the 29th. I would visit Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Miami, Key West,  Bonita Springs, Florida, Greenville, North Carolina, Richmond, Virginia, the University of New Hampshire in Durham, and Cohasset, Massachusetts.

The Persian miniature of Mian Mir (c 1550-11 August 1635) that Moineddin returned to me may be seen at the Wikipedia entry for Mian Mir. Mian Mir was a famous Qadri Sufi saint who resided in Lahore, Pakistan. He taught Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Mogol emperor Shah Jehan. Murshid considered himself the reincarnation of Dara Shikoh, and taught me the walk of Mian Mir, which Murshid Saul Barodofsky asked me to do last year at the DHO conference at Lama Foundation, as I led the group to Murshid’s maqbara [grave] up the mountain.

Dear Mansur, Beloved One of Allah,

As-salaam aleikhum! on this 49thURS of Hazrat Inayat Khan.

May I apologize for calling you a squawker? It was I who did the squawking, and may I ask your pardon.

In going through my library, I discovered an extra copy of Vol. XII belonging to you, and am returning it under separate cover. Also enclosed is the painting of Mian Mir which I feel you should have. I have enjoyed it presence, but feel that its message belongs especially to you. I shall regard it as a good friend that has gone traveling!

One request, if possible: do you know the address of the “North American Caliphate of the Qadri and Chisty Orders, Boston, Massachusetts”? Several of us in the Bay Area received their Order’s flag in the mail last week, and I’d like to thank them—but they gave no specific return address. Thanks, in advance.

Love to you and yours…ever expanding…

Love and blessings,

PS. San Anselmo got a blanket of snow last night. This morning everything is white and peaceful—the whole atmosphere is uplifted.

P.P.S. I leave tomorrow for a weekend seminar in Boulder, Colorado. Theme: MOSES, JESUS & MOHAMMED: Their Continuation in the Sufi Message.
